Alaska: The ‘Hood and the ‘Rod

The photo below is of a frozen Lake Hood near Anchorage, Alaska. You will notice tracks in the snow on the frozen lake surface. During summer, float planes use the lake for landing and taking off with pontoons. During winter, they continue to use the lake by putting skis on their planes.

In the background, Flat-Top Mountain can be seen just to the right of center. In the far left of the photo is the Millennium Hotel, which is the headquarters for the Iditarod Great Sled Race that runs from Anchorage to Nome.
